New to sensory play?
Here are a few of our favorite benefits:
Engage Five Senses
As we explore more scents, colors, textures, sounds, and tastes we build more tolerance to a variety of sensory experiences and develop language to describe those encounters.
Develop Fine and Gross Motor Skills
Fine motor skills are a key part of sensory play and will help children learn to grasp, reach, squeeze, scoop, and improve hand-eye coordination.
Heighten Imagination & Independence
Sensory play allows children to set their own learning and play experience and invite peers and adults into the play as they see fit.
Increase Mindfulness
Because sensory play incorporates so many of the senses, it naturally creates a mindful experience.
Our Story
Mitch and Ashley are a brother-sister duo who have brought two passions together--woodworking and sensory play--to create sensible, imaginative experiences for children and adolescents at affordable prices. Frequently Asked Questions
-
Sensory play is an engaging, highly stimulating play experience that often incorporates the five senses while building motor skills, creativity, mindfulness, and brain development. At Leika we strive to provide economically sensible sensory creations to help your children grow, learn, and enjoy hands-on play.
-
Sensory play brings children back to the fundamental elements of authentic self-directed play - creativity, fine motor skill development, imagination, technology-free. While engaging in sensory play they become more independent and build neurons in their brain which leads to problem-solving. In addition, by engaging many of the five senses they begin to make connections with the world around them and regulate their bodies and emotions.
-
The sensory experience should begin at a very early age. Three months old is an ideal time to start actively engaging babies in sensory play. Using toys and sensory creations that stimulate their five senses will start to build those nerve connections to their brains so that they can start to make sense of the world and begin learning colors, shapes, movement, textures, and more!
